CIS AT MHS: A Need. a response. a positive impact.
At Memorial High School, we recognize the immense social, parental, cultural and academic pressures our students face each day. Pressures that can lead to a variety of issues that take away from a young adult's happiness and well-being. It's for these reasons that a group of MHS parents, members of the MHS PTA and MHS administration reached out to Communities In Schools of Houston to bring wellness services to campus, beginning the 2016-2017 school year.
The response to the program was so positive and staggering -- the need for placement of a second wellness counselor was recognized at the end of the first year on campus. The Mustang community responded as it always does -- with tremendous generosity and support, making placement of a second wellness counselor possible, beginning the 2017-2018 school year.
Each year, the program becomes more robust, reaching students on all levels from the personal to the entire campus.
Seeing our counselors in action each day and knowing how their interventions and interactions are literally saving lives and making positive changes is something I value at the highest level. I believe in offering student wellness services 100%. It is working and our kids are going to rely on these services even more as they return to school this year. |
Now we look at MHS and wonder -- can you imagine what it'd be like without CIS here? MHS Parent whose teen son and daughter have both benefitted from having wellness counselors on campus says --
